Description
Fentongollan Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 18th century, although it probably has a core from the 17th century. It is constructed of slatestone rubble with plastered cob above, featuring granite quoins and roofs made of asbestos slate, with brick chimneys at the gable ends. The building has a double depth plan with a wing at the rear, and the main range is oriented end on to the slope. The farmhouse is two stories high and has a five-window front.
The central door is sheltered by a hipped roof porch and is flanked by three-light wooden sash windows that have been inserted midway between the original ground floor window positions. The first floor is rendered cob and features four-pane wooden sashes in their original openings. An external stack is located at the right lower gable end. The rear of the building is lower and irregular, with a rear doorway that has been converted into a window and door, positioned closer to the left lower end. There is a two-light wooden casement window with small panes to the left and a similar window to the right, which has gauze for ventilation in the left light.
Bead-moulded timber lintels are present over the openings with cob above. On the left side of the first floor, there is a wide three-light casement with small panes, along with a two-light, 16-pane sash and a two-light, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash to the right. The wing includes a small lean-to at the angle of the house and the wing, with a pent roof over the doorway at the end of the outshut.
