Description

Tregonian Farmhouse, now known as a pair of farm cottages, dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of painted slatestone rubble and cob, featuring scantle slate roofs and asbestos slate on the hipped wing and gable, with axial and lateral stacks. Originally designed as a 2-3 room through passage plan, it was extended with wings in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is positioned end on to the slope.

The east front has four windows, including a wide three-light window in a projecting bay at the upper left end, with a 12-pane, 2-light wooden casement above it, mostly set in cob walling under a hipped roof. The main range features a 4-light oak mullioned window with 10 panes in each light and an ovolo moulded oak lintel. To the right, there is a wide doorway and a 2-light casement window with 8 panes per light, along with a later single-storey cob lean-to. On the first floor, there are two 4-light casements, each with 10 panes, and evidence suggests that the opening above the door was originally deeper, possibly for a two-storey porch. Additionally, there is a 2-light casement with 6 panes each to the right, positioned under lower eaves. The wide eaves are supported by shaped wooden brackets, and there is an external lateral stack at the rear upper end. The interior has not been inspected.
