Description

Sunnyside is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with some remodeling in the 18th century. The building features partly painted shale rubble and cob walls, slate sills, and wooden lintels. It has scantle slate roofs with gable ends. A large external rubble stack with a brick shaft is located at the right-hand gable, while a brick chimney in two stages is found over the left-hand gable. The layout is T-shaped, with a parlour on the left and a hall/kitchen on the right, connected by a through passage that leads to a two-storey unheated wing at right angles to the rear, which has a stair on the left side behind the parlour.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window front facing southeast, with a doorway in the center featuring a 20th-century door. The windows are late 19th-century horned four-pane sashes. The wing has a wide window opening on the ground floor in the middle of the gable end, along with an original small two-light chamfered oak mullioned window, although its lights are blocked with rubble and positioned high up in the gable. On the northeast wall, there is a doorway to the left and a 19th-century center-hung 16-pane two-light casement to the right.

The interior has seen little alteration since the 18th century, featuring a dog leg stair and ovolo-moulded beams. To the right of the passage, there is a part-length draught excluding partition. The roof space was not accessible during the survey. Sunnyside is part of a group of four 17th and 18th-century farmhouses, with two others listed. This farmhouse is particularly notable for its good cob texture and a rare 17th-century window for this part of Cornwall.
