Milestone Circa 50M West Of West Trelowthas Bungalow

This milestone, located about 50 meters west of West Trelowthas Bungalow in Probus, Cornwall, is a historical marker made of stone and painted white, with black lettering. It stands 0.85 meters high and 0.43 meters wide, featuring a rectangular shape that narrows to an arched top. The inscription, carved in sans-serif capital letters, reads: "FROM / TREGOTHNAN / 4 / MILES." Below this inscription, there is a benchmark carved into the stone.

The milestone is part of a set of four that were privately erected to indicate the approach to Tregothnan House, which was remodeled around 1818 for the fourth Viscount Falmouth by architect William Wilkins. These milestones are positioned along a public, unclassified road that leads south from the A390, rather than on the private drive to the house.

This milestone is designated as Grade II for its historical significance as part of a group marking the route to a private residence, its intact condition as a complete early 19th-century example, and its group value with the Grade I listed Tregothnan House and the other listed milestones in the area.
