Description

Dairy Cottage is a pair of attached houses with a cart shed on the left, dating from the mid to late 19th century, with few later alterations. The structure is built of slatestone rubble with granite dressings and features a slate roof adorned with crested ridge tiles and gable ends. There are axial and lateral stacks with rubble shafts.

The original layout likely consisted of two attached houses, now combined into one. The house on the left has a two-room plan, with each room heated by the axial stack. The building steps down to the right, where the end house has a one-room plan heated by a front lateral stack. The cross wing at the left end is heated from a stack on the outer side.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical front. The main range features 20th-century casements on the ground floor and a plain door leading to the room on the right of the two-room plan house. There is a screen wall attached to the right end with two doors and four gabled dormers. The taller gable end of the attached wing has a four-centred arched granite door, with a two-light granite casement above it, complete with a relieving arch. The cart shed at the left end has four open bays divided by tree trunk piers, with one closed bay on the left that has double doors. Between the cart shed and the wing, there is an external stone stair leading to an upper porch with a door. The interior has not been inspected.
