Description

The Malthouse is a house from the mid-19th century with later alterations. It is built from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The building has gable end stacks with rubble shafts and cornices. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a central entrance, and each room is heated by a gable end stack. Attached to the front left is a three-storey tower with a one-room plan, which is unheated and open at ground level.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has three windows, all of which are 20th-century replacements. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casements on the right and one on the left, all featuring brick segmental arches. The central entrance has a 20th-century door with a slate hood above it. The first floor has three small 2-light casements, each with small gables above. The tower on the left has a round arch with a keystone on each side at ground level. The first and second floors of the tower have 2-light casements on the front and right sides, while the second floor front has a single light and the left side has a 2-light casement on the first floor.

On the left side of the house, the gable end features a 2-light casement on the ground floor to the right and a 20th-century porch to the left, with two 2-light casements on the first floor. The right side has an external stack and a 2-light casement on the first floor to the left. There is also a small single-storey 20th-century addition with a door and window. The interior has not been inspected.
