Description

The limekilns at Cotehele Quay in Calstock date from the early 19th century and are constructed from slatestone and granite rubble. They consist of a large set of three kilns arranged in a rectangular plan, measuring about 20 metres across, with a lean-to addition on each side. The kilns are built into the bank for top loading. The front features a half-arch on each side, leading to a vault, with each vault containing a stoke-hole on the inner side for the central kiln. There are smaller circular kilns on each side, each with a stoke-hole on the outer side of the vault. The left side includes a two-storey lean-to with a door on the ground floor and an upper loading door, while the right side has a single-storey lean-to with a hipped roof, a door, and a window.
