Description

The Former National School, dated 1830, was extended in the 20th century. It is built of granite rubble with granite dressings and features a steep asbestos slate roof with coped gable ends. A crucifix is located over the front porch gable, and there are octagonal granite chimneys on the other gables. The original T-shaped plan has been slightly extended and remodelled in the 20th century. The building was originally designed with two schoolrooms in the main range and a large porch or cloakroom at the front center. It is in the Tudor Gothic style and is a single-storey structure. The exterior features a symmetrical front with two bays on either side of a central gable-ended porch, although the right-hand bays are now obscured by the 20th-century extension. The central porch has a wide four-centred arched doorway with a hoodmould, which is now fitted with a window. Above the doorway is a date plaque, and to the left of the porch are two pointed arched two-light mullioned windows with Y-tracery and old small-paned casements. The interior has not been inspected.
