Description

School. Built around 1880. The building is constructed of granite and local stone rubble, with a steeply pitched slate roof featuring sprocketted eaves. The roof has gable ends to the right and left, and a gable end to the front wing on the right. The plan is an “L” shape, with a main range containing a large school room and a front entrance through a porch on the left. A projecting wing to the front right houses a smaller second school room. The front façade is single-storied and asymmetrical, with a gable end to the porch on the left and a gable end to the front wing on the right. The porch on the left has a window in its gable end and a chamfered granite surround to the entrance in its right-hand side wall. A bellcote, square in plan with open sides and a steeply pitched pyramid roof surmounted by a weather vane, sits above the porch. The main school room has a mullioned transom window, and the gable ends have mullion and transom windows in segmental arched openings.
