Description
Cassacawn Millhouse is a millhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted stone rubble with granite quoins and features a rag slate roof with gable ends and brick end stacks. The building has a two-room layout with a cross or through passage, heated by end stacks, likely consisting of a larger hall or kitchen on the right and a parlour on the left. There is a rear extension that has been partly remodeled in the 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high with a regular two-window front, and the entrance is slightly to the left of the center, featuring a 20th-century timber porch. The windows are early 19th-century 16-pane sashes. Inside, there are early 19th-century ceiling beams, although the fireplaces have been remodeled. This millhouse is associated with a mill that may date from the 17th or 18th century, located to the east. The mill's machinery has been removed, and the overshot wheel has been sold; the 17th-century granite fireplace is likely reused from another house.
