Description
This building is a former house that has been converted into a barn, along with adjoining piggery structures. It dates from the early 18th century and was remodeled and extended in the early to mid-19th century. The construction features granite rubble with granite dressings, and some areas are finished with granite ashlar and snecks. The roof is made of grouted scantle slate with gable ends, and there is a brick chimney over the original granite ashlar stack at the right-hand gable end.
Originally, the house likely had a two-room plan, possibly with chambers in the steep roof space. In the 19th century, the walls were raised, and a one-room plan, possibly a stable or shippon, was added to the left-hand end. The house was then converted into a shippon with a granary above, and external steps were constructed at the rear left. A single-storey 19th-century piggery is attached at the right-hand end and extends almost at right angles to the front.
The exterior is two storeys high with an irregular west front featuring mostly 19th-century openings. The 19th-century extension on the left has a doorway and a small window on each floor, while the former house on the right has a doorway towards the right side with a window above it. There are various blocked openings at both the front and rear. The main first-floor openings are positioned opposite the principal rear openings, which were used for winnowing. The piggery has two doorways on each front.
The building is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet situated within the ancient field system of this area of Cornwall.
