Description
27 and 27A Market Street is a town house with a later shop, built in the early 19th century. It features a stucco exterior on masonry and has an asbestos slate roof that is visible at the rear, along with a brick end stack on the right. The building has a double-depth plan and a wing at the rear left. Architectural details include quoin strips, a mid-floor string course, and key blocks above the openings. The structure stands three storeys high and has a three-window range, with the central windows being blind. The original second-floor windows are 16-pane hornless sashes, while the first floor has later 4-pane sashes. A late 19th-century full-width moulded entablature with a fascia and end consoles frames the large double shop front, which has a splayed central doorway and 20th-century plate glass windows. The interior has not been inspected.
