Description

This building is a range of shippons or pig houses located on the east side of the yard at Knighton Farm, dating from around the mid-19th century. The structure is made of snecked stone with dressed granite lintels and quoins, topped with rag slate roofs featuring gable ends.

The layout includes a row of shippons or pig houses on the east side of the yard, with a shallow cross wing to the right of the center. To the south, there is a row of open-fronted stalls consisting of five bays, along with two additional enclosed bays to the right. A wall on the west side of the yard extends from the gable end of the open-fronted stalls to the barn on the north side.

The exterior features a single-storey, asymmetrical front with a higher gabled cross wing on the right. The cross wing includes a single plank door, two plank doors on either side, and double feeding doors to the far left. The rear elevation has ventilation slits and plank doors at the back of the cross wing. The right side features a seven-bay row of stalls and a cart shed, with five open bays on the left supported by unmoulded granite piers and two openings with double doors on the right. The front of the yard is enclosed by a stone rubble wall with quartz coping, and the main entrance to the yard is located on the left.

The yard remains unaltered and unspoilt, with the unusual feature of a tree growing within it. The interior has not been inspected.
