Description
Two barns, likely built in the early to mid 19th century, are located on the west side of the yard at Trekernell Farm. They are constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings and feature rag slate roofs with hipped ends. The barns have an overall rectangular plan, with a row of shippons on the ground floor and a threshing floor above. The ground rises towards the rear, allowing direct access to the threshing floor.
The barns are two storeys high. The barn on the right is symmetrical and has four door openings on the ground floor, one of which is partly blocked. Above these openings, granite lintels continue as a granite string band. The first floor features central plank double doors with a slate hipped hood, flanked by two tall narrow ventilation slits. The barn on the left has two shippon doors beside a wide double door opening. There are also two loft doors on the first floor with slate hoods and two window openings.
At the rear, there are opposing threshing doors with slate hoods, as well as the remains of an open-fronted horse-engine house, with several granite posts still standing but the roof removed. The interior has not been inspected.
