Description
Fir Cottage is a house, now divided into two units, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed faced shale with dressed granite steps, a plinth, quoins, sills, jambstones, and shallow keyed arches. The roof is a slightly tented hipped dry Delabole slate with wide eaves, cast iron ogee gutters, pierced crested clay ridge tiles, and brick chimneys on the side walls. The building has a double depth plan with two equal reception rooms on either side of a cross passage that leads to a central stair between the rear service rooms. It is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-window east road front with original 16-pane hornless sash windows. The central doorway has an original six-panel door with key pattern bordered bottom panels and a key patterned frieze at the lock rail, along with a plain glazed rectangular overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
