Description
Two adjoining houses stand on Cove Hill, with the western house dating to the 18th century and the eastern house built around the early 19th century. Number 1 is constructed of painted rubble with slate sills, shallow brick arches, and a scantle slate roof. It features a cast iron ogee eaves gutter and has a plan of two rooms arranged around a central passage. The west front is symmetrical, featuring two windows and a central doorway with original hornless 16-pane sashes. Number 2 is of painted rubble with cob to the first floor, slate sills, and timber lintels. It has a steep asbestos slate roof to the left and a corrugated asbestos roof to the right, sloping down to the rear and originally thatched, with brick chimneys at the gable ends. A cast iron ogee eaves gutter is also present. The interior has not been inspected. The plan consists of two nearly equal rooms around a cross passage, which leads to a central stair and shallower rear service rooms. The south front of Number 2 is nearly symmetrical with three windows and a central doorway containing a four-panel door with later glazed upper panels. The window openings are wide, containing original 18th-century 3-light casements with 8 panes per light, thick glazing bars, internally ovolo-moulded, and a significant amount of original crown glass. The interior has not been inspected.
