Description
The footbridge over the River Kennal, dating from the early to mid-19th century, is constructed of cast iron and features a five-bay design. The walkway is made in sections with a diamond pattern for grip and includes slots for drainage. It has two identical balustraded parapets, each cast in one piece and designed in a Gothic style. The balustrades consist of a bottom rail, narrow lancets leading up to the next rail, and intersecting pointed arches between the top rails. The footbridge was relocated in the 20th century when the river was diverted. It is part of the Perran Iron Foundry, which was established in 1791 and was the most significant foundry in Cornwall during its peak, known for producing some of the largest beam engines ever made. This footbridge, likely cast at the foundry, showcases the quality and scale of its castings.
