Description

This milestone, likely dating from around 1864, is made of painted dressed granite and has a monolithic structure. It features a triangular-shaped shaft that sits on a rectangular base. The two rectangular sides of the shaft face the road at an angle and rise from large pyramid-shaped stops. Each side has incised lettering and Arabic numerals. The pyramidal head of the milestone displays the following inscriptions: on the left side, "PENZANCE 9, LANDS END 19," and on the right side, "HELSTON 4, FALMOUTH 16." Additionally, there is an Ordnance Survey bench mark located over the right-hand side.
