Description

Sunnyside, including the garden walls to the front, is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. The front is made of coursed dressed granite with granite sills and lintels, while the rest of the building is painted rubble. It has a grouted scantle slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends and slightly projecting eaves at the front, featuring a cast-iron ogee gutter. The house has a shallow double depth plan, consisting of two equal rooms at the front and shallower service rooms at the rear, likely with a staircase in the central cross passage. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window south front with a central doorway. The original three-panel door has an overlight, and there are original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The interior has not been inspected, but the well-preserved exterior suggests it may also be intact. On either side of the house, there are rubble-coped garden walls that extend at right angles to the front. A low granite ashlar wall with a central gateway is located at the front of the garden, while the third side of the garden features a central gateway with square-on-plan granite gate piers topped with pyramidal heads. The original iron railings have been replaced by a concrete block front wall.
