Description

Rose Cottage is a small house dating from the 18th century, situated on Higher Road in Breage. The exterior is constructed of granite moorstone rubble with partly dressed granite quoins and lintels, featuring slate sills. The roof is steeply pitched corrugated iron, replacing a former thatched covering, and incorporates a stone rubble chimney on the left gable and a brick chimney on the right.

The house was originally planned with a small hall or kitchen to the left and a very small parlour to the right, both heated by gable end chimneys. A cross or through passage connects the rooms, with shallow service rooms situated behind later lean-tos.

The south-facing front displays a nearly symmetrical two-window facade, with the window grouping slightly offset to the right. A four-panel door, incorporating glazed upper panels, is located to the right of the main window grouping, and is protected by a circa early or mid-20th century glazed conservatory/porch. The windows are circa early or mid-20th century, four-pane, two-light casements.

The interior remains uninspected. Rose Cottage forms part of a row of houses and is considered one of the older properties, having undergone only minor alterations.
