Description
Castle Millford Mill is a grist mill, likely from the 18th century, situated on an earlier site. The structure is built of stone rubble and has a slate roof that has been replaced with corrugated asbestos. The mill has a rectangular plan and features the remains of a breast-shot wheel on the left-hand side wall, which operated two pairs of millstones.
The building is one storey high with a loft and has a 19th-century plank door at the front. The remains of the hybrid breast-shot wheel are on the left side, although the timber paddles are now missing. The right side of the mill is attached to the millhouse.
Inside, the machinery appears to be largely complete, except for one millstone. The timber hurst frame is intact, but the machinery was partly obscured by logs, preventing a full inspection.
