GV II

Water grist mill. Early C19 with later alterations. Random stone rubble with corrugated asbestos sheets to gabled roof Rectangular on plan with machinery and water wheel at the east end. 3 storeys and loft. North front has doorway on ground floor with chamfered frame, carpenters' mitres and window to right; blind above. Ground at west end and rear (south) at first floor level. West end has stone steps to first floor doorway and small window to loft above. C20 lean-to shed to rear. Large, probably late C19, iron breast wheel at east end with first floor and loft windows above. INTERIOR: Stone flags on ground floor. Floors above supported on large roughly chamfered cross beams and joists. Tie-beam roof structure with queen struts and tenoned purlins, in severely decayed state at time of survey. The principal feature of this building is the machinery, which is not complete but includes one complete pair of mill stones and cogging renewed probably in late C19 in cast iron.
