TREMAINE SX 29 SW 3/168 Castle Millford Millhouse -
GV II
Millhouse. Circa late C17. Stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with hipped end on right and gable end on left. End stack on left. Plan: 2-room plan with entrance slightly to right of centre, entering directly into the heated larger hall-kitchen on left, with lath and plaster partitiion shutting off the unheated room, a dairy, on the right. The house further extends to the left with a one-room plan probably C17 or early C18 extension, heated by a fireplace, backing onto that of the hall kitchen. Exterior: Two storeys. Nearly symmetrical two window front with C19 2-light casements. C19 plank door with casement to left and small dairy window to right. First floor has 2 casements. C19 plank door in extension to left. Small lean-to outshut on right. Interior: Floor joist of main range replaced in C19. C20 chimney-piece. Dairy with slate shelves. Small extension to left with roughly chamfered floor joists and roughly cut timber lintel to fireplace. Especially unaltered and unspoilt millhouse and mill (qv) in picturesque position.
