Description
The gate-piers and gate located approximately 50 meters southwest of Tregew House date from the early 19th century. They feature shale rubble flanking walls and piers, with dressed granite steps and chamfered pier caps. Behind the bottom step, there are cobbles, and the wrought iron gate is accompanied by flanking fences and a frame that includes an overthrow. The structure has a flight of seven steps, with the bottom steps meeting the road at an angle. At the top of the steps, there are low terminal piers topped with round bowl flower pots on carved bases, as well as low gate-piers with dressed granite quoins. The iron gate and fences are designed with spiked bars, with closer spaced spiked bars below the lock rail, turned finials on the frame, and a shouldered shallow arched overthrow adorned with scrolled ironwork and a finial on top.
