Description

The dock is a dry dock built around 1820. It features stepped granite ashlar walls and has a rectangular shape with an open end facing west. There are slots in the side walls at the west end that indicate where timber was attached, with baulks of timber fitted between them to keep the water out when it was used as a dry dock. According to an extract from "The Story of Flushing Cornwall" by Ursula Redwood, this new tidal dry dock at Little Falmouth was ready for use in 1820 and was particularly useful for repairing the Packets, which often arrived in poor condition. This facility allowed for repairs to be completed more quickly, saving both time and money.
