Description

This is a house located at 19 Tregew Road, built around the early 19th century. It features slate hanging over a rubble base and has low-pitched hipped roofs covered with scantle slate. The roofs have wide eaves and a brick chimney positioned over the left side wall and the cross wall of the rear left wing. The layout includes a large reception room on the left and a smaller room on the right, both facing the garden, with a smaller room behind and an axial entrance passage behind the left-hand room. This arrangement is typical for early 19th-century homes, where the main rooms face the garden, separated from service areas by a stair hall with a side entrance. There is a central staircase leading to the rear service wing, which projects to the left. A glazed entrance porch conservatory connects to a large greenhouse on the left side. The house is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window south front with four-pane horned sash windows. The middle window is where a doorway would typically be, but there is no evidence of one ever existing. The walling is wider to the left of the windows, and the left-hand and middle windows are spaced closer together. The heads of the ground floor windows are positioned close to the sills of the first-floor windows, creating a taller space under the eaves. There is a lean-to entrance porch between the left side wall and the wing, featuring pointed arched lights and similar detailing to the door. The interior has seen little alteration and retains much of its original early 19th-century carpentry and joinery, including a dog-leg stair.
