Description

The Old Parsonage is a house dating from the early 19th century, representing a remodelling of an earlier building with subsequent alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and a slate roof. The original design incorporated a through-passage plan, presenting a symmetrical facade. The building is two-and-a-half storeys high, featuring two gables topped with ball finials, and has three windows to the front. These windows are 16-pane sashes with flat, splayed stone surrounds and cills. The central entrance features a fielded panelled door with a transom light within a moulded wooden frame; a gabled porch once stood at this location. Each gable also contains a 12-pane window. On the south side, there is a 16-pane sash window at the first floor, mirroring the front elevation, and a two-light casement window above. To the north, the ground floor has an eight-pane casement window, a two-light casement with glazed upper sections on the first floor, and another two-light casement above. The rear of the house has mostly 19th-century casement windows, with the exception of a square window with diamond and margin glazing bars on the ground floor (the second from the left) and a small 19th-century window with a pointed arch and stained glass on the first floor (also the second from the left). A single-story wing to the right of the main building has a plank door and a 12-pane window. Inside, a wide hall with a dog-leg staircase is present. The front rooms retain window shutters with panelled soffits and aprons. A cellar lies beneath the front right portion of the building.
