Description
The ruin of a windmill tower, located 500 metres south-west of Rose-in-the-Valley, dates from before 1695. It is constructed from large blocks of elvan and serpentine. The conical slate cap has completely disappeared, leaving a circular, untapered tower that stands three storeys high. Most of the floors have been removed, except for some joints on the first floor. There is one opening on the first floor and two on the second floor, but none of the openings have glazing. The entrance is located to the south, with a partially blocked entrance to the north. To the south-east of the windmill, there is the stone gable of a thatched house that has recently collapsed, along with some outbuildings. These structures may be the ones mentioned in a sale notice from October 11, 1828, in the Royal Cornwall Gazette, which advertised a stone tower windmill complete with a dwelling house, barn, and stable. The stone gable and the remains of the house and outbuildings are not included in the listing. The site is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
