Description

Tregonwell Mill is a miller's house dating from the 18th century. It features painted stone rubble and cob walls, slate sills, chamfered wooden lintels, and a scantle slate roof with a brick chimney located over the left gable end and the party wall on the right side of the middle. The building has an overall T-shaped plan consisting of three rooms plus an outshut: a kitchen on the left with a large fireplace, a central parlour, and an unheated service room on the right at a slightly lower level, which includes an integral pantry outshut now containing a stair behind the parlour.

The house is two storeys high with a four-window south-west front that shows slight irregularity, featuring a two-window house on the left and a 20th-century rebuilt front on the service end to the right. The front has a wide central doorway with a top-glazed ledged door and a slated hood above, along with wide window openings supported by oak lintels made from reused ship timbers with treenails. There is an old ledged door to a doorway on the left side of the service end, and the windows are primarily 2-light casements with glazing bars, except for a 3-light casement at the rear of the outshut.

Inside, the mill retains original roughly-chamfered cross beams, a large hearth, and niches from blocked windows in the rear wall of the left-hand room. There is also a 2-panel door leading into the right-hand room from the outshut. The first floor and roof have not been inspected.
