5/102 Rose Cottage - GV II
Small house. Circa late C17-early C18. Painted cob walls over stone rubble footings, slate sills, wooden lintels. Wheat reed thatched roof covered with corrugated iron eyebrows over first floor windows brick chimney over hipped end, left and brick chimney over gable end, right. Plan: parlour, left, and hall/kitchen right with stair and shallow service room behind under integral outshut. 2 storeys. Irregular 2-window east front. Central doorway with 4-panel door later top-glazed. C20 open porch. Windows are circa late C18 horizontal sliding sashes with 6 panes per light. Ground floor left-hand window has been turned through 90 degrees to become vertical hung sash. First floor windows are closer spaced. To right of first floor right-hand window is plastered niche and inside apparently there is a seat beside the first floor fireplace. Interior has 2 wide chamfered and stopped beams and moulded pine post and panel partition left of doorway, both features possibly circa late C17. Otherwise later beams. First floor and roof structure not inspected. This house has been virtually unaltered since the C18 and is therefore a rare survival.
