Description
The Triangle is an 18th-century house located in Manaccan. It features painted rubble and cob walls, slate sills, and wooden lintels. The steep scantle slate roof slopes down towards the rear and was formerly thatched, with brick chimneys on the gable ends. The house has a double depth plan, likely consisting of a hall or kitchen on the left and a parlour on the right, with a nearly central cross passage leading to the stairs and shallower service rooms at the back.
It stands two storeys plus an attic and has a nearly symmetrical two-window east front. The doorway is slightly to the right of the middle and includes a four-panel door with a later top-glazed window. To the left of the doorway is a late 18th-century two-light casement window with horizontal wooden glazing bars and leaded panes. To the right of the doorway is an early 19th-century canted bay window with wooden glazing bars, which was probably added for use as a shop or for spinning. The wide first-floor windows are three-light casements without glazing bars. Above the doorway, there is a gabled attic dormer with a two-light casement featuring glazing bars.
A photograph from around 1900 has been copied for the National Monuments Record. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is said to be little altered since the 20th century. The partly leaded glazing of this house appears to be a style unique to the Lizard area.
