Description

The Cottage is a small house dating from the late 17th century, with repairs and renovations carried out in the 1980s. The exterior features whitewashed, rendered, and plastered walls, with the front wall rebuilt in brick, likely in the 19th century, to the left of the front door. The right end wall is made of stone rubble, while the rear wall consists of cob on stone footings. The house has a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends, with a stack located at the left end.

The original layout included two rooms, with a principal heated room on the left and an unheated service room on the right; the partition between these rooms has been removed. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension has been added to the right end. The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front, which features a slight change of plane on the left. There is a 20th-century porch to the right of the centre, leading to a 20th-century front door. The windows are 2 and 3-light timber casements, dating from the 19th or 20th century, and include glazing bars.

Inside, the left-hand room has a chamfered scroll-stopped cross beam and a rebuilt fireplace with a timber lintel. The staircase, located in the rear right corner, features a winder and a straight flight. The roof is supported by pegged A-frame trusses, with the principals possibly pegged into wall posts, suggesting they could date from the late 17th century.
