Description
Orchard Cottage is a small house, likely built in the late 17th or 18th century, with modernizations from the 20th century. The exterior is colourwashed and plastered, probably made of cob and stone rubble, and features a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the right end and gabled at the left end, with a projecting stack at the left end. The house has a single depth, two-room layout, where the larger room on the left is heated by a gable end stack, while the smaller room on the right appears to have been unheated. There is a rear left lean-to that is likely a 19th or 20th-century addition. The exterior has two storeys and an asymmetrical front with three windows, a 20th-century porch, and a front door. The windows are 20th-century timber casements with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected. Orchard Cottage forms a thatched pair with Higher Gabwell Cottage.
