Description
Smythencott Farm is a small house dating from the early 18th century, with a 20th-century addition and alterations. The building features rendered cob walls and a thatched roof, which is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There are brick stacks at both gable ends, with the left stack being brick and the right stack being a projecting rendered rubble with a brick shaft. Originally, the house had a two-room plan, with a smaller unheated room on the left that had a stack inserted. In the 20th century, the partition between the two rooms was removed and stairs were added. A single-storey addition was also added to the rear in the 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high, with a regular two-window front featuring 20th-century two and three-light casements. There is a thatched roof open-fronted porch from the 20th century to the left of centre, with a glazed door behind it. A small outbuilding, likely from the 18th or 19th century, is located against the right gable-end wall.
Inside, the right-hand fireplace has a rough wooden lintel and a cloam oven, and the principal rafters are insubstantial and straight.
