Description

Orchard Cottage is likely a late 18th or early 19th century house, probably originally two cottages. The structure is built with plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rubble and cob stack topped with brick, and has a thatched roof. It was originally a 3-room plan house facing south, but now has 20th-century additions to the rear. An axial stack serves between the central and left (western) rooms. It’s thought the central and right rooms were originally one cottage, and the left room another, though the latter may have been rebuilt and adjoins another property. The cottage has two storeys and a regular 3-window front featuring 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A former front door has been blocked with a window, the fourth window from the right of centre. The main entrance is now through 20th-century service outshots at the rear. The roof is half-hipped to the right. The interior was not accessible for inspection.
