Description
Smythen Hill Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage with a circa early 20th-century addition. It is constructed of rendered cob walls and has a thatched roof, gabled to the right end and hipped to the left. A projecting rendered rubble stack with a brick shaft is situated at the right gable end. The original plan was for two rooms, with the larger, heated room positioned to the right. A 20th-century addition was built at the left-hand end. The front elevation features a regular two-window arrangement of mid to late 20th-century, two-light, diamond-leaded pane casements. A gabled porch, characteristic of stable doors, is located to the left of the centre. A two-storey lean-to addition is present at the left-hand end with a door at the front. Inside, the fireplace in the right-hand room has a rough wooden lintel. A small, 18th or early 19th-century built-in wall cupboard is found to the right, featuring curved shelves.
