Description

The Dell is an early 18th-century cottage with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of plastered cob walls and has a thatched roof, gabled at the right end and extending over a lean-to at the left end. A projecting plastered rubble stack with a brick shaft is located at the right end. The original plan comprised a single room heated by an end stack, with a 19th-century outshut added to the left-hand side. The exterior features an asymmetrical two-window front with 20th-century one and two-light casement windows on the first floor, set in small openings. A 20th-century bow window is present on the ground floor to the right. A gabled, glazed and timber porch of the early 20th century is centered, with a 20th-century two-light casement to the left, and an early 20th-century thatched roof porch extends to the left into the outshut. Internally, there is an open fireplace with a plain wooden lintel. The cottage is part of a hamlet originally containing identical cottages.
