Description

Waterside Midships and South Cottage is a terrace of three houses built in the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of stucco over rubble walls and feature an asbestos slate roof that is hipped to the left and has a gable end on the right, along with an axial brick stack. Each house has a one-room, double-depth plan, with the middle house having a rear stair projection. The design includes Neo-Classical details and stands two storeys tall.

The south-facing road front has four windows, which are twelve-pane horned sashes. The doorways are located at the ground floor openings two and four, with five paired together. Moulded hoods supported by consoles adorn these doorways, and the left doorway features an architrave. The window openings also have original architraves, with moulded designs on the ground floor and plain designs on the first floor, all supported by consoles under the sills. The buildings have a plinth and plat with plait moulding, and a vermiculated rusticated quoin strip on the ground floor right, as well as a splayed pier on the left. There are paired consoles and cornices above, with incised scrolled panels on the first floor that include pendant fleur de lys finials. The ground floor windows on the left and middle have 20th-century louvered shutters.

The interiors were not fully inspected, but the entrance hall of Midships features a carved and moulded plaster ceiling band and an original stick baluster dog leg stair.
