Description
Edmonds and Son is a house that was later converted into a shop. The front dates from the early 19th century, while the rear wing is from the 18th century. The front is finished in stucco with an asbestos slate roof, situated between two adjacent buildings. The rear and wing have grouted scantle slate roofs. The original layout featured a two-room double depth plan, incorporating an earlier two-room wing. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window south-facing road front. It has a 20th-century plate glass shop front with a central doorway. Above this, there are four-pane horned sash windows in their original openings, framed by moulded stucco architraves. A portion of the plinth remains, along with full-height incised scrolled pilasters on both sides and a moulded eaves cornice. The wing has two mid-18th century 16-pane two-light casements on the ground floor of the east wall. Each window has an original fixed light with heavy ovolo moulded glazing bars. The interior of the main part has been altered to accommodate the shop, while the wing was remodelled internally in the 19th century. The building is included for its group value.
