Description

The gazebo, or summer house, located southeast of Spindrift House, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stucco over studwork or brick and features a pyramidal scantle slate roof topped with a turned wooden finial. The building has paired octagonal brick chimneys that are engaged with the right-hand (west) wall. The plan consists of a square summer house on the first floor above a square store room. The north wall contains doorways, with the first-floor doorway accessed by a straight flight of external steps. Windows are present on three sides. The exterior is two storeys high, with the north entrance front featuring a ground floor doorway on the right and granite steps with a ramped wrought iron handrail leading to the first-floor doorway on the left. There is an original tall sash window with marginal panes to the right of the middle, and a similar sash window in the left-hand wall. Inside, the gazebo boasts an original vaulted plaster ceiling with a central rose.
