Description

Netherleigh is a small town house, likely built in the 18th century and remodeled around the mid-19th century. It features a stucco front and rubble construction elsewhere, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has projecting eaves at the front. There are brick chimneys located over the gable ends. The house has a plan consisting of two rooms with a cross passage between them.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents a symmetrical three-window front facing the road, with a central doorway set within a doorcase that has consoles. The windows are four-pane sashes framed by stucco surrounds, which include blocks at the meeting rail level and stucco lintels decorated with keyhole-shaped designs. The rear interior has not been inspected.

At the front, the house is set above a shallow sunken walk, which is bordered by a granite coped retaining wall topped with mid-19th century iron railings. These railings have round stanchions with square cushion bases and hall finials, along with two holed collars on each stanchion to secure the round section rails. Netherleigh adjoins York House, one of the oldest buildings in Marazion.
