Description

The Methodist Church, along with its forecourt walls and steps, was built in 1893 and is designed in the Gothic style. The structure features dressed granite brought to course with granite dressings on the front gable end, while the sides are finished with rockfaced granite. The roof is made of dry Delabole slate and has a brick chimney at the rear gable end.

The church has a rectangular, aisle-less plan with galleries, with the ritual east end located at the north and an entrance hall with flanking stairs at the south. The exterior has two storey elevations and a symmetrical three-bay south entrance gable front, with the central bay being wider. Weathered buttresses divide the bays and clasp the corners, topped with pinnacles and a cruciform finial over the coped gable. There are two central pointed-arched doorways set within a round outer arch, and smaller round-headed arches above 2-light windows on either side. A cogged mid-floor cornice runs along the front.

On the first floor, the openings are similarly arranged but are under pointed arches, featuring paired lights. The central window has two paired pointed lights with a rose window above. The church also includes Y-traceried wooden windows and paired pointed-arched gable ventilators.

In front of the entrance, there are two L-plan flights of granite steps that flank a wide landing, which is bordered by a square granite coped balustrade. The steps have square chamfered granite newels with moulded caps, and in front of the blind balustrade, there are four memorial niches. Additionally, there are cruciform-headed granite monolithic gate piers and some cast ironwork adjacent to the road. The interior has not been inspected.
