Description

Tregarthen Cottage is an 18th-century house, which was later used as two separate dwellings. It is constructed of painted granite rubble with granite dressings and wooden lintels, and has an asbestos slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends. The house follows an L-shaped three-room plan, with a fireplace in each room. An 18th-century staircase is located to the right of the main doorway. A 19th-century staircase occupies the wall of the later divided front wing on the right-hand side. The exterior features two storeys, with the inner angle of the L exhibiting north and east fronts, each with two first-floor windows and doorways facing the angle. There are 20th-century windows on the north front and 12-pane two-light casement windows on the east front. The main part of the interior has had its floor replaced, but one reused 18th-century bowtell-moulded beam remains. The 18th-century staircase has a closed string and column-turned balusters. The wing contains a 19th-century staircase and moulded beams dating to the 19th century.
