Description
Island Studio and The Candle Shop are two houses that have been converted into shops with living accommodation above. They date from around the late 18th century and are constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble. The roof is made of rag slate with gable ends, and the left side has a higher range. There is a brick end stack on the left and a stone rubble axial stack with a brick shaft located between the two houses, along with the remains of a brick shaft for a front lateral stack near the right gable end of the right-hand property.
Island Studio, located on the left, features a one-room and passage plan with an entrance on the right. The left-hand room is heated by an end stack, and there is a circa 19th-century lean-to outshut added to the rear. The Candle Shop on the right has a two-room layout with a central entrance.
The building is two storeys tall with an overall three-window regular front. Island Studio has an early 20th-century part-glazed door on the right, a 19th-century two-light horizontal sliding sash window on the left, and a small casement window. The first floor features an early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window in a gabled half dormer. The Candle Shop has a symmetrical two-window front with a partly glazed 20th-century central door, two 19th-century horizontal sliding sash windows on the ground floor, and two 19th-century casements above. The interiors have not been inspected.
