Description

The Riverside Hotel is a building that was originally a warehouse, dating from the early 19th century and converted into a hotel around the mid-19th century. It is constructed of slate stone rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof that has a hipped end on the left and a canted end on the right. There is a brick stack located in the left hipped end.

The building likely started as two houses with a single depth plan, each having a central entrance that leads directly into stair halls, with a reception room on either side. It stands three storeys tall and has a regular three-window front. The ground floor includes two early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash windows flanking a pair of central entrances; the left entrance features a 20th-century part-glazed door, while the right has a 19th-century four-panel door, both adorned with round rubbed brick arches. The first floor has three early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash windows, with two positioned to the left. The second floor also features three early 19th-century hornless sash windows.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension that is slate hung and has modern fenestration. Inside, there is a mid-19th-century open string stair of fine quality. The building retains an unspoilt elevation facing the road.
