Nant y Brain

Nant y Brain is a two-storey L-shaped building made of rubble stone and covered with slate roofs, with the front rendered. Each house has three windows and stone end stacks, except for the left stack of the later house, which is made of blue brick. The windows of the earlier house are slightly offset to the right, while the later house has a symmetrical layout. Both houses have central doorways; the earlier house features a 20th-century half-glazed door, while the later house has a planked door. All windows are horned 6-over-6-pane sashes with flat heads. The south gable end is rendered and includes a central buttress and a flat-headed doorway to the right, which contains a recessed late 20th-century glazed door.

At the rear (west) of the earlier range, there is a stairlight with a timber lintel and plain glazing, flanked by narrower window openings under segmental brick heads with late 20th-century glazing. Skylights are present on the roof pitch. The rear (north) of the later house has a small window on each storey towards the left, and to the far left is a small corrugated lean-to. There is also a single-storey outbuilding attached to the east gable end.

Inside, the earlier house features a central staircase hall with a dog-leg staircase leading to the rear, which has plain balusters and a heavy moulded handrail. The left partition has a cross-beam at the top with a narrow chamfer and run-out stops. The hall, which is now used as a kitchen, is to the left of the entrance hall and has a single boxed-in cross-beam, while the fireplace has been infilled. To the left of the fireplace is a second entrance. The later house, which is currently unoccupied, was not inspected.
