Description

Number 21 is an attached house, now used as an office, dating from around 1770 and restored around 1989. It is constructed of brick with limestone dressings, features party wall stacks, and has a pantile roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Mid Georgian style, rising three storeys with a three-window range. The exterior includes rusticated quoin strips and a moulded parapet coping. The left-hand doorway is framed by an architrave with a large split key and brackets supporting a pediment, leading to a six-panel door. There is a canted timber bay with pilaster jambs and a cornice, and the windows have segmental-arched heads with five stepped voussoirs, containing 6/6-pane sashes. Inside, the property reportedly retains some original features, including panelling. The building also has attached spear-headed steel front area railings, which were completely rebuilt around 1980 to match the original design. Together with the neighbouring listed buildings, it contributes to a fairly complete 18th-century street.
