Description

Nos. 22, 23, and 24 Denmark Street, along with No. 8 St Augustine's Parade, form a terrace of four houses that have been converted into shops. These buildings date from the early 19th century and are constructed of brick and render, featuring limestone dressings, brick party wall stacks, and a pantile mansard roof. They are arranged in a double-depth plan and consist of three storeys and an attic, with a variety of window arrangements including 1-, 2-, 3-, and 7-window ranges. The terrace has houses of differing widths and turns sharply at the right-hand corner, where there is one window in the right return, enhanced by pilasters leading to a coved parapet coping. The shop fronts are from the 20th century, and the rectangular windows have cambered heads supported by five stepped voussoirs, with 6/6-pane sashes and margin panes on the right-hand pair of houses. The corner windows are wider and feature wrought-iron Gothic-arched basket balconies on the first floor, along with dormers. The rear elevation of No. 24 has a brick front with moulded strings and chamfered surrounds, while No. 8 has 8/8-pane sashes in flush frames. The interior has not been inspected.
