Description
No. 3 Clifton Road is a terrace of three houses, now converted into one block of flats, built around 1790. The building is made of rendered limestone ashlar and features coped party walls with truncated stacks and slate mansard roofs. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the late Georgian style. The structure consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-window range. There are pilaster strips at the ends leading to a cornice band and parapet, along with a ground-floor plat band. Some doorways have been blocked and converted into windows, while there is a single late 20th-century doorway at the rear. The windows include late 20th-century 6/6-pane sashes and 6/9-pane sashes on the first floor, which have small steel balconies. The late 20th-century mansard roof features two lead-clad dormers with 3/6-pane windows. The projecting raised basement areas, which previously had a raised pavement, have been altered to expose basement sashes. The interior has been completely remodelled in the late 20th century, resulting in the loss of original features such as pedimented doorcases with fanlights and raised front pavements. The building is included for its group value.
