Description
No. 7 Morford Street is a terrace house, now converted into flats, dating from around 1775 to 1789, with 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, which is now painted on the ground floor, with a timber bressumer above it. The basement has rubble below the sill of a former window, while the rear features both ashlar and rubble. The roof is double-pitched, with a parapet at the front, covered in concrete tiles, and pantiles at the rear. An ashlar stack is located on the front roof, and there is a staircase at the rear.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a basement, with a single bay featuring a tripartite window arrangement. The first floor has a Venetian window flanked by two two-over-two horned sash windows, all set in plain reveals with a continuous stone sill and a wrought iron balconette in the centre. The second floor has three grouped horned sash windows, with narrower plate glass windows on either side of two two-over-two sash windows, all in plain reveals with a continuous stone sill. The ground floor has a pair of two-over-two horned sash windows on the left with plain reveals and splayed jambs, along with a disused 20th-century six-panel door on the right, set in a moulded stone architrave with a frieze and moulded cornice forming a hood above. The basement has a former window opening that is now blocked, and part of a limestone staircase is visible, along with a door under a crossover that is not visible. A band course runs above the ground floor, with a moulded eaves cornice and a coped parapet that has been rebuilt in reconstituted stone. The rear elevation features six-over-six sash windows, with horns, except on the second floor, and there are 20th-century alterations to the basement and a 20th-century porch providing new rear access to the flats.
The property also has attached wrought iron railings that have been refixed on concrete bases.
